Letting the Fun Unfold – Hiking & Sledding

We don’t always have some some grandiose ambition when we head out the door.  We mostly just want to be outside and we enjoy being together.  Today our goal was simple – go for a walk. I knew sorta where I wanted to go, so we got everyone suited up and off we went.  We have the (huge) benefit of the outdoors being in our backyard.  It was about a 3 min car ride to get there!  We started on Cemetery By-pass trail, then Eco-terrorist and a loop back on What’s up Doc.  Simple pimple.  8 kids, some adults, a child backpack, two sleds and the kids made the fun up as we went.WinterHikingFamily Winter HikingSnow Flake

It was snowing as we walked, and the crystal’s were awesome.  Some of the best I have seen with the naked eye.  The kids were oohing & aahing over them, and I was wishing that I had a macro lens!  Even with just a zoom lens they turned out pretty cool.Trail Food

For us, the key to a good (longer) outing is food! And it was very important that M&M’s were distributed evenly 🙂  There were smaller people counting!Snow Falling Hiking

It’s snowing heavier…..

And now the downhill fun begins!  The kids took turns  being the passenger, and their partner was responsible for helping them to slide in control, downhill, through the tree’s.Kids SleddingThe non-sliders ran to keep up…..Running in SnowIt’s slippery out here!Falling in SnowKids toboganingKids Fun in SnowFamily Toboganing

And then we found a natural bobsled course.  Slick glassy ice weaving down the trail through the trees.  They spent at least a half hour sliding down and then running back up and would have spent much longer if we didn’t call them away.Kid sliding on iceKids winter Activity
